Committed to the safety of the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, this territory was prevented from being used during the transit of drug traffickers to Central America.
In a joint and combined effort, thanks to the rapid reaction of maritime and air units of the Colombian Navy, the Colombian Air Force and a United States aircraft, it was possible to intercept a go fast boat carrying 133 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride while transiting in Caribbean Sea waters near the Island of San Andrés.
The interception occurred thanks to the operational synergy and joint work in which a Colombian Navy Maritime Patrol aircraft, a Colombian Air Force aircraft, and a North American JIAFT-S aircraft participated, which helped to find, contact and guide the Rapid Reaction Units –URR - of the Colombian Navy Coast Guard, to the point of interception after several hours of pursuit under adverse conditions.
During the inspection, Colombian Navy personnel determine that the boat was manned by three individuals, one Colombian and two Jamaicans, who were transporting seven sacks with 132 packages to Central America. The boat was taken to the main dock of the San Andrés Coast Guard Station, where Sijin (Judicial Police) personnel of the National Police conducted the Preliminary Identification Test –PIPH - to the substance, leaving a positive result for 133 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
The drug along with 100 gallons of gasoline, cell phones and two GPS, were put into custody of the Attorney General's Office; while the three arrested individuals were put into custody of units of the Judicial Police of San Andrés.
With this severe blow to drug trafficking organizations, Colombian and U.S. authorities prevented 332,500 doses of cocaine from being distributed on the streets.
