Military forces neutralized two improvised explosive devices in indigenous people lands of the department of Chocó

Fuerzas Militares neutralizaron dos artefactos explosivos improvisados en comunidad indígena del Chocó

In the framework of an operation of the Joint Task Force Titan with the support of the Colombian Navy, two Improvised Explosive Devices - IEDs, anti-personnel mine type, were found by troops and destroyed, which would have endangered the integrity of the inhabitants of the indigenous people of San Cristóbal, in the department of Chocó.

Thanks to the timely warning by these people settled on the San Juan coast, troops of the Ground Operations Battalion No. 26 of Colombian National Army and the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.24 of the Colombian Navy, reached the town of the indigenous people of San Cristóbal, in the village of Potedó and after the review of the area two anti-personnel mines were found by troops planted near the indigenous village.

Expert personnel destroyed the anti-personnel mines in controlled conditions, which contained approximately 1.5 kilograms of explosives each, apparently of the pentolite. According to preliminary information, these were allegedly installed at a depth of 35 centimeters, presumably by members of the ELN Organized Armed Group, which commits crimes in the area.

The Naval Institution reminds people that, in case of finding any strange element around their homes, or in rural areas, they should keep their distance and immediately notify the authorities for emergency control.
