In compliance with the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan and within the framework of military operations, as a result of intelligence work carried out by the BASEC N° 5, troops of the Ayacucho Battalion, in coordinated work with the Air Intelligence Group N° 12, the Carabineros Section, the Brigade Against Illegal Mining and Corpocaldas carry out a joint operation aimed at controlling the illicit exploitation of mining sites and the protection of natural resources.
This operation was carried out in the village of Jaguero, a rural area of the municipality of Riosucio, department of Caldas, on the water tributary of the Cauca River. During this intervention, it was possible to arrest 15 individuals, allegedly linked to the activity of illicit exploitation of mining deposits, which generated environmental damage to natural resources, as well as a direct loss to the strategic resources of the nation, such as the Pacific Highway Axis 3 and the Medellín-Cartago Gas Pipeline.
At the site were disabled and eliminated five engines and eight motor pumps, elements that would cost 26 million pesos, which were put into custody of the authorities.
This result of the military operation represents an economic loss to the criminal structures of approximately 2400 million pesos, taking into account that the illicit exploitation makes an estimated extraction of 130 grams of gold per day, equivalent to 3900 grams per month, with a cost of 2,398,500,000 in trade.
Colombian National Army reaffirms its permanent commitment to the protection of the environment, the defense of natural resources and the control of illicit activities, providing security and well-being to communities.
