Seventeen alleged members of the GAO Clan del Golfo were arrested in coordinated operations in El Carmen de Bolívar.
Within the framework of territorial control operations in the Montes de María subregion, the Colombian Navy, in coordination with the National Police and inter-institutional with the Attorney General's Office, continues to strengthen security conditions in the municipality of El Carmen de Bolívar and surrounding sectors.
Thanks to the coordinated work, in 2026 results have been reported that directly hit the criminal groups that intend to generate instability in this area of the department of Bolívar.
17 alleged members of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo have been arrested, including alias Niko, alias Ayapel or Niño Mercado, alias Mono, alias Artesano and alias Mario, who, apparently, are accused of coordinating and carrying out illegal activities that violated tranquility and security in the region. Those arrested were put into custody of the authority to continue with the judicial process.
The coordinated work with the National Police has been fundamental for the protection of the communities of the Montes de María region, maintaining a permanent presence, checkpoints and immediate response capacity to face any threat.
The Colombian Navy will continue to carry out joint, coordinated and inter-institutional operations in order to work for the tranquility of all the inhabitants of this region of the country. It in the same way invites people to report to the authorities any situation, group or person that poses a risk to the inhabitants.
