Military forces strengthen their strategic environmental vision with regional workshops

Fuerzas Militares fortalecen su visión estratégica ambiental con talleres regionales

Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Joint Strategic Campaign Plan, aimed at consolidating the Strategic Environmental Vision in Security and Defense, the General Command of the Military Forces held feedback workshops in Villavicencio, Florencia and Cali, with the support of the Sustainable Forest Territories Program (TEFOS) of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Ideas for Peace Foundation (FIP).

The activities, led by the Joint Environmental and Disaster Risk Management Department, facilitated the presentation and validation of the progress of the Strategic Concept and the Strategic Environmental Context, through spaces for technical dialogue and joint construction with personnel of the branches: Colombian National Army, the Colombian Navy and the Colombian Aerospace Force.

During the meetings, the participants defined institutional roles in environmental protection, identified adjustments and opportunities for improvement, and recognized priority areas for intervention in the department of Meta, department of Caquetá and Cauca. In the same way, military operations, current resources and closeness to the citizens were reviewed to strengthen the contribution of the branches in environmental conservation, in harmony with their constitutional mission and in coordination with the civil authorities.

This process constitutes a significant progress towards the integration of a strategic environmental, territorial and military operations approach within the Defense Sector.
