As part of the commitment to peace, the National Army, Colombian Navy and Colombian Air Force components attached to the Specific Command of San Andr茅s and Providencia, supported the government authorities of San Andr茅s in the work of road cleaning and debris removal in the sectors of the island hit by the transit of Hurricane Julia.
Initially, the Military Forces in a joint and inter-institutional operation with the Colombian Civil Defense, the Official Fire Department, the Departmental Government and the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management -UNGRD, activated the emergency protocols in order to join operational, logistical and human talent efforts to support the vulnerable inhabitants in this insular region.
Facing the transit of Hurricane Julia, the institutions that are part of the National Disaster Risk Management System verified the situation, noting that this natural phenomenon caused the fall of dozens of trees and flooding in homes and commercial establishments, as well as the trawling of fishing boats to the coast of the bay, which were retaken to safe areas thanks to the work of the Coast Guard units of San Andr茅s y Providencia.
The clearing operation was carried out in different points of San Andr茅s, including the Circunvalar Avenue, areas surrounding the airport and San Luis, where the military personnel of the Navy Infantry Battalion No.11 and troops of the National Army in coordination with the other public officials, have led the Unified operation of the State through a coordinated effort that seeks to reestablish the normal social, tourist and economic development of the region, as well as strengthening the quality of life of the islanders and raizales.
