Thanks to the work of intelligence carried out by the Navy of Colombia in the southwest of the country, it was possible to arrest alias El Politico or Gustavo, alleged ringleader of the substructure Pacific of the Organised Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, who would be in charge of trying to bribe officials of the Navy of Colombia, in the department of Chocó, in addition to intimidate the groups of hotels and traders of the region through extortion.
The operation was carried out in the southern terminal of Medellín (Antioquia) by troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the Colombian Army, who, in coordination with officials of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney General's Office, and thanks to intelligence information provided by the Colombian Navy, arrest this individual without damaging the physical condition of the civilians, the participating units, or the individual arrested.
Alias El Político presumably functioned as an ideologist and organizer of the criminal policy of the GAO Clan del Golfo, internally, he became the head of commissions in charge of carrying out criminal activities on the border of Colombia and Panama related to drug trafficking and armed proselytism in the province of Darién, in the neighboring country of Panama, in order to control drug trafficking routes in this region.
