Troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Caribe and Magdalena in coordinated work with Gaula of the National Police and the Attorney General's Office in search procedures carried out an operation in which 15 people belonging to the Organized Crime Group, GDO, Los Costeños are arrested.
The operation was carried out in two phases. The first was carried out in the early hours of May 25 in the neighborhoods Ferrocarril, La María, and el Hipódromo, in the municipality of Soledad, Atlántico, where 13 individuals were arrested. In the second, two more arrests were possible, one in the municipality of Caimito, Sucre, and another by judicial notice in the Modelo Prison in Barranquilla.
The 13-month investigation established that each of those arrested had conducted specific fieldwork to carry out studies of establishments and their owners, to seek very timely information on possible victims so that, with these data from a prison, intimidating calls were made to merchants to cause fear.
In the same way, those arrested are charged with the crimes of extortion, association to commit crimes for extortive purposes, selective homicides, control of local drug trafficking and theft of the community.
During the proceedings, material evidence was obtained, which led to the verification that these persons were using their properties for the storage and reception of the stolen material and to plan the execution of each act.
