In a decisive operation against urban terrorism, the Cundinamarca Military GAULA (ANTI-EXTORTION AND ANTI-KIDNAPPING GROUP) led the dismantling of a clandestine workshop used for the manufacture of improvised explosive devices in the locality of Usme, south of Bogotá.
The operation, carried out jointly by the Colombian Aerospace Force, the JUNGLA Group of the National Police, the DIJÍN and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), led to the arrest of two alleged members of a criminal structure that, apparently, maintained links with the ELN, specifically with the Jorge Eliécer Gaitán Urban Front and the National Urban War Front Commander in Chief Camilo Torres.
The building intervened functioned as a center for the adaptation and assembly of explosive devices, allegedly intended to attack the Military Forces and the inhabitants in the capital city of the country.
During the procedure, more than 800 5.56 mm caliber cartridges, weaponry, an M203 grenade launcher, shotguns, Mini Uzi magazines, as well as grenades, fuses, detonators, gunpowder and multiple components for the manufacture of improvised explosive devices were found by troops.
This result represents a direct blow to the ELN's terrorist resources in urban environments, thwarting possible violent acts and weakening its ability to hit security and law and order in Bogotá.
Those arrested were put into custody of the authority for their respective prosecution.
The Military Forces, through the Military GAULA, will continue to carry out operations to neutralize any threat against the tranquility of Colombians.
