He identified himself as a member of the Comandos de Frontera to extort money from his victims.
The individual is considered a high-profile criminal, given that, in addition to having an arrest warrant for aggravated extortion, he has judicial records such as prison escape, illegal carrying of firearms and sexual assault.
After months of investigations, collection of evidence and legally obtained information, a coordinated operation conducted by the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the Ninth Brigade, the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of the Police and the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Prosecutor's Office led to the effective arrest of this individual, for the alleged crime of aggravated extortion.
The military operation was carried out in the municipality of Pitalito, south of the department of Huila, and led to the transfer of this man to the authorities, who was not only trying to evade the Military Forces, but apparently continued to commit crimes.
The facts that support the arrest warrant occurred in October 2023, when alias Machete, after studying his victim, a citizen of southern Huila, contacted him by phone and, posing as a member of the Comandos de Frontera, demanded 4 million pesos in exchange for not attacking his life and that of his family.
After agreeing on the payment, alias Machete instructed the victim to deliver the money to a isolated place, near a commercial establishment, where he sent a third party to pick it up. The latter was arrested on October 23.
The investigative operation continued, and made possible the identification of alias Machete, who, after hearings, received detention in a prison.
According to the intelligence operation, this individual allegedly extorted at least seven people in the rural and urban area of Pitalito, demanding sums ranging 1 to 60 million pesos.
Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to the fight against extortion in Huila and invites the inhabitants to report this crime on line 147 of the Military Gaula.
