Alias Diomedes, who would have belonged to the GAO Clan del Golfo for about three years, would have interference in the municipalities of Betulia and Concordia, in the southwest of Antioquia.
Soldiers of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Valle de Aburrá of the Fourth Brigade, in coordination with the SIJIN (JUDICIAL POLICE) of Antioquia, engaged an combat with alleged members of the Edwin Román Velásquez substructure of the GAO Clan del Golfo, in the village of Santa Mónica, municipality of Concordia.
During the military operation, alias Diomedes, the alleged ringleader of this illegal group, was arrested and a minor was apprehended. In the same way, the death of another alleged member of the substructure was reported in the framework of military operations.
According to preliminary information, alias Diomedes would be linked to recent armed incursions in the village of Altamira, in Betulia, and with the collection of money from extortion against various productive groups in the sector.
The arrested must face charges of manufacturing, trafficking and carrying of weapons, ammunition of restricted use of the Military Forces, as well as for manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition.
A 9 mm caliber pistol, a 38 mm caliber revolver, ammunition of different calibers, two motorcycles, a cell phone and narcotics were found by troops at the scene. The arrested, the minor and the material found were put into custody of the authorities.
Through this result, a direct loss to the criminal component of the GAO Clan del Golfo was made and possible terrorist operations against the Military Forces and the inhabitants are prevented, thus contributing to stability and security in the southwest of Antioquia.
The Fourth Brigade of Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to weaken the armed operations of illegal groups, protect the inhabitants, contribute to the security of the region, and strengthen governance in the department of Antioquia.
