In different operations carried out by the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Department of Chocó during the last week, it was possible to arrest five members of the common crime group Los Mexicanos, in charge of extortions in the municipality of Quibdó.
The tactical missions, in coordination with the Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and SIJIN (JUDICIAL POLICE) of the National Police and the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Prosecutor's Office, were carried out after the denunciation by the different victims, most of them merchants in the region, who were receiving threats against their lives, those of their families, employees and businesses.
Sums from one hundred thousand pesos to 10 million are the monetary extortions of this criminal structure, which, through pamphlets, calls and messages by WhatsApp, intimidate the victims repeatedly.
During 2021 the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Department of Chocó has arrested 51 members of the group Los Mexicanos, of which, 44 have been for the crime of extortion and 7 for association to commit aggravated crimes.
It should be noted that once it is known that the citizen is being subjected to extortion or kidnapping and the case is brought to the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) with the respective denunciation, an operation is immediately carried out to initiate the operation and obtain the arrest of the extortionists in flagrante delicto.
