Military operation against illegal mining, weakens finances of the GAO Clan del Golfo

In the El Jardín, Cáceres municipality, Antioquia, in a joint and coordinated operation, it was possible to find a mining production unit and the destruction of yellow machinery (two excavators), allegedly used for the illicit exploitation of mining deposits in this rural area.

The mission carried out by the Colombian Air Force, National Army and National Police, led to the recovery of approximately 10 hectares damaged by this illegal problem; approximately 20 or 30 years will be necessary to restore these lands, with an approximate cost of 1,000 million pesos.

With this operation, the finances of the Roberto Vargas Gutiérrez Structure of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, are directly damaged, who will stop receiving about $ 1,460,000,000, about USD$ 367,390, monthly; the dismasted machinery would have an approximate cost of 900 million pesos.

This mining production unit would have removed 950m3 of soil, with a deforestation of approximately 6,000 trees, causing the displacement of native ecosystems, in addition to causing pollution of the Cauca River.

In this way, the Military Forces contribute to the conservation and recovery of natural resources and water tributaries of the department of Antioquia.
