According to Military Intelligence information, he had more than seven years of criminal experience and committed crimes in the Yariguíes Province and the La Sabana sector, where he allegedly coordinated extortions, selective homicides and criminal intelligence activities against the Military Forces.
The events were reported in the framework of search and area control tasks that the military units carry out on a permanent basis to strengthen security and territorial control in the Middle Magdalena region. Upon noticing the activity of the members of the Military Forces, the individual opened fire on the troops, which generated the legitimate reaction of the soldiers and the consequent exchange of rifle fire.
Within his criminal acts, this individual is accused of the alleged coordination of selective homicides against people recurrently linked to crimes such as theft, personal injuries and drug trafficking or consumption, as well as the collection of money resulting from extortions against productive groups ranchers and palm plantation owners, criminal acts that he carried out in order to maintain territorial control and illicit finances of the organization. He would in the same way be responsible for leading criminal intelligence activities against the Military Forces, aimed at observing and reporting movements and vehicles used in the area.
In the middle of the combat, the accused was injured and received immediate pre-hospital care by the soldiers at the scene, implementing the established protocols and respecting human rights. Later, he was evacuated and taken to a hospital in the municipality, where hours later his death was confirmed.
During the operation, a 9-millimeter caliber pistol, eight cartridges of the same caliber, four rudimentary mortar-type grenades and a cell phone were seized. These elements were put into custody of the authorities for the corresponding judicial proceedings.
