Military operation in the Catatumbo dismantled clandestine explosives factory used by the GAO-R to perpetrate terrorist attacks against the Military Forces

Operación militar en el Catatumbo permitió desmantelar fábrica clandestina de explosivos utilizada por el GAO-r Estructura 33 para perpetrar ataques terroristas contra la Fuerza Pública

During the military operation, 320 detonators, 120 rudimentary drone grenades and 08 anti-personnel mines with pressure activation method were found by troops.

 

These elements were being used by the armed group to coordinate drone attacks on troops on the ground.

 

Troops of Colombian National Army, jointly with the Colombian Aerospace Force and coordinated with the National Police, found in the village of Versalles, rural area of Tibú, Department of Norte de Santander, an illegal complex for the elaboration of improvised explosive devices, made of six structures that would be part of the residual organized armed group (GAO-r) structure 33.

 

At the site, troops found 320 detonators, 120 rudimentary drone grenades, 80 kilograms of explosives, 8 anti-personnel mines, 4 40-kilo cylinders, 3 means of launching (pads) and 15 meters of slow fuse. In addition, 344 units of ammunition of different calibers, 4 operations for drones, a drone and 14 propellers for these air means.

 

In the same way, two motorcycles and communication equipment and military accessories for the exclusive use of the military forces were found by troops.

 

Through military action, a strategic mobility route used by this armed group to restrict the mobility of the inhabitants of the sector was neutralized; in the same way, from this site, drone attacks were coordinated on personnel of the Military Forces that are conducting operation in the region countering the problem of drug trafficking and illicit activities.

 

This operation managed to provide safe spaces for people to move through the area without fear; in addition to facilitating children and young people to move to schools without fear and to promote the safe transport of agricultural products.

 

Colombian National Army categorically rejects the indiscriminate use of unconventional means and methods of warfare designed to attack the inhabitants and the Military Forces.
