Thanks to the effectiveness of the military intelligence and the deployment of the military operation, it was possible to find and neutralize a threat that was damaging the security and tranquility of the inhabitants in this area of the country.
Within the framework of the Strategic Campaign Plan Ayacucho Plus, soldiers of the Rapid Deployment Battalion N.° 2, unit of the Rapid Deployment Force N.° 2 of Colombian National Army, fought against alleged members of the Residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Rafael Aguilera Structure in the vicinity of the municipality of Santa Bárbara de Iscuandé, department of Nariño.
After a thorough intelligence work that led to the identification of the activity of armed individuals intimidating the inhabitants, a military operation was planned and executed in order to neutralize this threat. During the maneuver, the troops found the group and the combat started.
As a result, the death in the framework of the operation of two alleged members of the residual organized armed group Structura Iván Ríos was reported, who would be in charge of extortion activities, intimidation and other terrorist operations in the region.
Three long assault weapons, a telescopic sight, three magazines and 62 cartridges of different calibers were found by troops at the scene. The material was put into custody of the authorities, along with the evidentiary elements.
