Mine clearance specialists cleared 73% of the municipality of Apartadó, Antioquia of anti-personnel mines

Desminadores despejaron de minas antipersonal el 73 % del municipio Apartadó, Antioquia

That area, in the northwest of the department of Antioquia, now enjoys tranquility after receiving that declaration.

Since 2021, soldiers of the Humanitarian Demining Engineer Battalion No. 6 have intervened in 41 sectors of the municipality of Apartado, Antioquia, to liberate this territory of the threat of anti-personnel mines.

There were 3 years of manual demining work, in which 9 confirmed dangerous areas and 14 suspected dangerous areas were identified; a total of 191,719 square meters were cleared. This work led to decontaminating 73% of the suspected anti-personnel mines in the municipality.

In turn, the mine clearance specialists destroyed 12 anti-personnel mines and four unexploded ordnance.

The work carried out by the troops in the Urabá subregion leads the inhabitants to use their territory to grow corn, cassava, bananas and avocados, in addition to continuing with livestock farming and livestock production.

More than 30,000 inhabitants benefit of the humanitarian demining tasks of Colombian National Army, which will strengthen tourism, social and economic development of the Antioquia region.
