The operation against drug trafficking in the Colombian Pacific carried out by Colombian Navy units has led to the seizure of more than 12 tons of narcotics in the first month of 2021, which hit the finances of transnational criminal organizations and their logistical support valued at more than 377 million dollars
In the latest blow to drug trafficking in this region of the country, it were seized more than 2.5 tons of cocaine in the course of two maritime interception operations carried out by Coast Guard units in Tumaco and Buenaventura, under the guidance of the Task Force Against Drug Trafficking Poseidon No. 72.
The first blow to drug trafficking took place in the Central Pacific, where the units detected a lobster boat named El Abuelo, manned by five individuals who traveled at high speeds at night. The individuals ignored the call made by the Coast Guard units, so a maritime interception operation was required. After several minutes of pursuit, it was possible to immobilize the boat, in which 39 bags with 1,160 rectangular packages with narcotic substances were found.
Subsequently, in the early hours of the morning the units detected the second lobster boat, manned by three individuals. At the time of inspection, the military units found 56 bags of different colors with 1,395 packages of narcotics, 660 gallons of fuel and communication equipment.
The Initial Preliminary Test made by officials of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps) of the Attorney鈥檚 Office to the substances found in the packages, left positive results for 2,553 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, which according to intelligence information, it would have as destination the coast of Central America. The eight individuals, who must respond for the crime of trafficking, manufacture and/or carrying of narcotic drugs, were captured and put into custody of the authorities.
