More than 250 people were evacuated and relocated in temporary shelters

Más de 250 personas fueron evacuadas y reubicadas en albergues temporales

On the occasion of the wave caused by rains that has hit the country in recent weeks, the Colombian Navy supported the evacuation and rehousing in temporary shelters, of more than 250 inhabitants of the municipality of Puerto López – Meta, after the overflow of the Metica River, which caused severe flooding in the houses of the area.

The emergency, which occurred in the neighborhoods of Salina and Abel Rey, was immediately addressed by troops of the 51st Navy Infantry Battalion of the Colombian Navy, together with the municipal Mayor's Office, the Volunteer Fire Department of Puerto López, the Colombian Civil Defense and the Disaster Risk Management Unit – UNGRD.

The Sailors of Colombia arranged all their logistical resources and human talent to transport food, blankets and drinking water in order to solve the losses left by this natural phenomenon to dozens of families in the Orinoquía region. In the same way, in a coordinated work with the related institutions, the navy units saved some pets and moved different belongings to safe shelters.
