More than eight cubic meters of timber found by the army and the police

As part of a ground operation, the Colombian Navy, the environmental Police and the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Nariño - Corponariño found 8.72 cubic meters of wood in three sawmills, which did not have the corresponding permits or documents to market this material.

 

Troops of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.40 accompanied by the environmental authorities, attended the call of the community, who denounced the illegal commercialization of timber specimens in the Exportadora neighborhood of the municipality of Tumaco – department of Nariño.

 

Troops found three sawmills with 70 beams of red mangrove, and 70 beams and 47 blocks of quangare, completing 8.72 cubic meters of wood.

 

At the time of requesting the laissez-passer and the licenses accrediting the authorization for the commercialization, the owners found that they did not have the permits granted by the environmental authority for such activity.

 

The wood was put into custody of to Corponariño, who carried out the confiscation procedure for illegal trafficking of flora, in accordance with Law 2111 of 2021 on Environmental Crimes.

 

As of 2024, the Navy Infantry River Battalion No.40 has found 44.6 cubic meters of wood in Tumaco - Nariño, thus preventing the illicit use of this material and contributing to the decrease of illegal logging in the region.

 

The Colombian Navy will continue to carry out operations for the protection of the environment, with the purpose of preventing the illegal exploitation of timber specimens, as well as any illicit activity that threatens natural resources. In the same way, it invites all the inhabitants to report any suspicious activity that puts the fauna and flora of the Nariño Pacific at risk.
