More than half a ton of marijuana was found in Puerto Colombia

Más de media tonelada de marihuana incautada en Puerto Colombia

Units of the Coast Guard Station of Barranquilla and the Caribbean Naval Air Group of the Colombian Navy, carried out a maritime interception operation in which more than half a ton of marijuana was seized.

The events occurred eight nautical miles north of the municipality of Puerto Colombia - Atlántico, when in the early hours of the morning a go fast type boat was detected sailing at high speed, apparently bound for Central America.

Immediately, a Coast Guard Rapid Reaction Unit and a Naval Aviation aircraft were deployed, which initiated the pursuit of the suspicious ship. Noticing the authorities, the crew of the go fast left sacks with rectangular packages at sea, which apparently contained illicit substances.

At the end of the chase, the Coast Guard personnel recovered 16 sacks of the sea and took them to a safe port. There, officials of the Technical Investigation Staff of the Attorney General's Office - CTI, conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, determining that it was 530 kilograms of marijuana, illegal merchandise that would have a cost of more than three million dollars in the international illegal market.

The immobilized boat and the three people found on board, were put into custody of the authorities.
