During a maritime interception operation, the Colombian Navy reported the finding of more than a ton of marijuana that were transported on board a Go Fast type boat, which was sailing at high speed and suspiciously, apparently destined for Central America.
The one of military operations was carried out northwest of Santa Marta, in the department of Magdalena, since a Unit-type aircraft of the Naval Institution detected a suspicious contact of a ship, through its control and surveillance systems. Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit -URR - of the Coast Guard Station of Santa Marta was sent, which, after several hours of pursuit, thwarted the criminal intent.
During the operation, the crew members — two of Costa Rican nationality and one Nicaraguan - were caught in flagrante delicto transporting 63 sacks with 2,397 rectangular packages. When the Approved Preliminary Identification Test - PIPH- was carried out by members of the Military Forces of the Criminal Investigation Section - SIJÍN- of the National Police, it was confirmed that they contained 1,400 kilograms marijuana.
This illegal merchandise could be distributed in more than 230,000 doses, whose value in the illicit market exceeds $ 8.4 million, representing a powerful economic loss to drug trafficking organizations operating in the Colombian Caribbean.
The individuals, the boat and the material were taken to a safe port on the Colombian coast, where they were put into custody of the authorities for the corresponding judicial process.
Through this result, the Colombian Navy ratifies its commitment to the fight against drug trafficking, in defense of national sovereignty and maritime security of the country, contributing to keeping the Colombian Caribbean free of transnational crimes that disturb the stability and tranquility of communities.
