In the Nariño Pacific region, Colombian Navy interrupted the trafficking of more than a ton of cocaine

En el Pacífico nariñense, Armada de Colombia interrumpió el tráfico de más de una tonelada de cocaína

During the military operations, a different type of drug trafficking using floating cargo was discovered.

As part of the comprehensive maritime control and security operations carried out by the Colombian Navy in the waters of the Nariño Pacific, a shipment of cocaine hydrochloride was found, which would cost more than 11 million dollars and would be destined for Central America.

Thanks to Naval Intelligence information, which alerted about a possible cargo of narcotics in the waters of the South Pacific, Coast Guard units were deployed 70 nautical miles from Tumaco, in the department of Nariño, where they found the illegal merchandise floating in the water and tied to a buoy.

It should be noted that this type of drug trafficking consists of placing a load of narcotics in the water, which may or may not be submerged, in a previously established position and area, marking its finding with a floating object, so that another ship can recover it without having contact between them, in order not to arouse suspicion among the authorities.

The members of the Military Forces recovered 55 bags that apparently contained illicit substances, which were taken to the dock of the Coast Guard Station of Tumaco, where the Technical Investigation Corps – CTI- conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test, determining that it was 1,090 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride. The item was put into custody of the authorities.

Through this seizure, the Naval Institution prevented the commercialization of about three million doses of drugs on the international illegal market.

The Colombian Navy continues to carry out sustained operations against the transnational crime of drug trafficking, in order to prevent Colombian waters from being used as routes for the transport of illicit substances. In the same way, it invites citizens to report any suspicious activity through lines 146 and 147, available 24 hours a day.
