The Colombian Navy, through the Navy Infantry Brigade No. 4 and in coordination with the National Police, reported the finding of an illicit hideout of rudimentary explosives, in a rural area of the municipality of San Andrés de Tumaco, department of Nariño.
Troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Tumaco found the illicit hiding place in the village of La Espriella, where the troops found eight sacks with 500 kilograms that, apparently, contained an explosive substance. Specialized technicians of the Criminal Investigation Section – SIJIN - of the National Police, carried out the corresponding tests, confirming the high detonation capacity of this element.
According to preliminary information, this substance would be used for the manufacture of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), with the intention of attacking the Military Forces and the inhabitants. In the same way, it is presumed that the elements would belong to the Residual Organized Armed Group -GAO-r- Iván Ríos.
Once the area was secured, the elements were destroyed, following the established security and stablished protocols.
