This local initiative achieved the benefit of more than 200 peasants of the municipalities of Pica Pica Nuevo and San Francisco del Rayo in the south of the Department.
The strategy led by the municipal mayor in coordination with the Special Administrative Unit of solidarity organizations, The Fe en Colombia program of the National Army, the Rural Development Agency and the territorial Renewal Agency, consisted of touring the streets of the municipality with the caravan of the peasant market of the people, promoting the purchase of fresh food grown in the region of San Jorge.
There, the inhabitants of the neighborhoods El Mirador and Pablo Sexto, purchased products such as: cachama (fish), chicken, orange, melon, cob, banana, duck, grapefruit, tomato, cheese, cassava and yam of the best quality and at a very good price. These foodstuffs were brought from the rural area to the urban area of the municipality on the night before the activity, thanks to the work of the soldiers of the Support Battalion of Comprehensive Action and development No.7, The Joint Aquiles Task Force and the Ground Operations Battalion no.23 of the Seventh Division.
In the same way, the men and women of the National Army were in the caravan of the peasant market carried out the door-to-door distribution of the food baskets, respecting all biosecurity protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The result of the activity was positive, the institutions brought from the countryside to the city, agricultural products that were marketed without any intermediary, generating new income to growers and preventing the loss of the harvest due to lack of local buyers.
