During the military operation, 12 people were arrested; troops also disabled machinery they used to carry out activities focused on the illicit exploitation of mining deposits.
In order to weaken illegal activities and in compliance with the objectives of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, troops of the Combat Engineer Battalion No. 14 of the Fourteenth Brigade, and in coordination with the National Police, carried out an important operation against illegal mining in the village El Oasis, in the municipality of Puerto Berr铆o, in the department of Antioquia.
In the place, the troops carried out the intervention of 4 extraction points and the arrest of 12 individuals in flagrante delicto, who would be used by members of the Jorge Iv谩n Arboleda Garc茅s Substructure, of the organized armed group, GAO, Clan del Golfo, to carry out work focused on the illicit exploitation of mining deposits, and in this way generate economic income to this armed structure.
In the same way, the disablement of 2 backhoes, 16 engines, 10 motor pumps and 12 dredgers was carried out, elements that would cost approximately 1200 million pesos. In the same way, it is estimated that 800 and 1000 grams of gold were extracted in this area per month, with an approximate cost of 300 million pesos.
This result represents a significant damage to the illicit activities of the GAO Clan del Golfo, limiting its sources of financing, used to strengthen its criminal activities and obtain war material, used to attack the inhabitants and the Military Forces.
