Within the framework of the permanent operations against drug trafficking and organized crime, Colombian National Army and the National Police of Colombia have achieved a powerful result against illicit activities in the department of Vaupés.
The procedure was carried out in the sector known as Dos Islas, a rural area of the municipality of Caruru, approximately five hours far from the urban area by river. In this place, the authorities found a hideout on the bank of the Vaupés River, which contained about 1300 kilograms of marijuana, valued at 2,860 million pesos.
This important result of military operations was made possible thanks to the coordinated work of intelligence, review in the area and coordination conducted by the units of Colombian National Army and the National Police, which led to anticipating the intentions of the criminal structures operating in the region.
According to the preliminary investigations, the narcotic would have as a destination the Federal State of Brazil, being part of a transnational criminal route used to export hallucinogenic substances. These illicit activities are allegedly being led by residual organized armed structures (GAO-r), at the service of alias Ivan Mordisco.
This powerful heavy blow significantly hits the finances of these criminal organizations, stops the circulation of a large amount of drugs in international markets and contributes directly to the security and tranquility of the Amazon region.
