Thanks to the coordinated use of armored vehicles, anti-explosive equipment and differential resources, one of the most critical threats recently detected on the Pan-American highway in the southwest of the country was eliminated in controlled conditions.
Through a coordinated work conducted by Colombian National Army and the National Police, six gas cylinders equipped with approximately 600 kilograms of ammonium nitrate-based explosive were found in sewers in the village of La Loma, municipality of Piendamó, department of Cauca.
According to the review carried out at the site, this explosive charge had the capacity to generate serious damage within a radius of more than 300 meters, which posed a direct threat to both the Military Forces and the inhabitants who pass through this sector.
Due to the magnitude of the elements found and in order to prevent damage, the explosives were secured and taken under strict security measures to an appropriate place, where they were put into custody of the authorities for technical analysis and corresponding procedures.
