In the month of January, the Fifteenth Brigade has intervened 74 mining production units, dealing a powerful blow to illegal mining in the department.
As part of the military operations carried out in the village of Guayabal, in the municipality of Quibdó, troops of this unit deployed their military operations resources, and the intervention of 38 the sites.
This action directly hits the illicit and criminal activities of the organized armed group GAO Clan del Golfo, with the disablement of 5 diver-type dredgers, 13 engines and 20 motor pumps, used for the illicit exploitation of mining deposits in the region.
In a coordinated manner with the National Police, this result of the military operation generated an approximate economic loss of 330 million in machinery. In the same way, it is estimated that through this intervention it was possible to stop the extraction of about 2000 grams of gold, whose monthly profits would reach 980 million.
By means of this result, there are already 74 mining production units intervened by Colombian National Army within the framework of the tasks carried out by the Fifteenth Brigade, which evidences a sustained action against illicit exploitation, criminal finances and illegal activities that hit the Choco department territory.
Similarly, in operations on the Atrato River, near the municipality of Quibdó, soldiers of the Front-Line Infantry Battalion No. 12 (BIPLI 12) found 17.5 tons of cement, which were transported without complying with current regulations or carrying the required documentation.
The Fifteenth Brigade works for the Chocoan territory will continue to be carried out operations to continue weakening the illegal structures that attack the safety and well-being of the inhabitants.
