In a military operation, the troops of the Rainforest Infantry Battalion No. 4 General Antonio Nariño, of the Nineteenth Brigade, held a combat against other members of the Erlin Pino Duarte Substructure, of the organized armed group (GAO) Clan del Golfo, in the sector of La Garita, municipality of Río Viejo, south of Bolívar.
The troops carried out intense reconnaissance tasks that led to the collection of key information to anticipate movements of this criminal structure, dealing a blow to its armed and logistical resources. In this way, it was possible to arrest 3 people in flagrante delicto and confiscate 5 rifles, 17 magazines, more than 1300 cartridges of different calibers, 3 communication radios, 26 mortar rounds, 49 anti-personnel mines, 8 tactical vests and campaign equipment.
The confiscation of these elements of war not only represents a direct loss to the operational capacity of the organized armed group, but in the same way prevents the installation of explosive devices that threatened the integrity of rural communities, social leaders and peasants of the region.
The arrested and the elements put into custody of the authority for the respective judicial process.
By means of this operation, Colombian National Army ratifies its initiative of the military operation in the south of Bolivar, weakening the structures of the illegal groups that intend to destabilize the region, maintaining military operations that contribute to the protection, security and tranquility of the South Bolivar people.
