These vehicles are equipped with machineguns and grenade launchers, with which the military operations against the organized armed group ELN and its criminal operations in the Catatumbo will be supported.
The ASV-117 is an armored vehicle with 4x4 traction that provides ballistic protection to the crew members against a large number of threats. These advantages include protection from high-caliber ammunition throughout the vehicle, in addition to this, the same vehicles have gained an excellent reputation with the troops of different countries for the support in transporting and protecting soldiers.
Several of these vehicles will be driven in different areas of the Catatumbo region in the Department of Norte de Santander. This comes in the frame of the confrontations of recent days between the illegal armed groups ELN and GAO-r Structure 33, which have put the inhabitants of this area of the country at risk. Its mission will be to work to increase the mobility of troops on different roads and reinforce the operation with weapons of greater scope and effectiveness that leads to recover the areas where these criminal groups have begun operations.
Through this strategy, Colombian National Army seeks to make a constant work in different areas and also influence on the reduction of the different crimes that generate anxiety in the inhabitants of this region, ensure their protection and neutralize the threats in this area.
