In the framework of operations conducted in the village of Mata Arriba, municipality of Remedios, northeast of Antioquia, troops of the Rainforest Battalion No. 55, of the Nineteenth Brigade of Colombian National Army, found and dismantled a camp area belonging to the Jorge Iván Arboleda Garcés substructure of the organized armed group (GAO) Clan del Golfo.
In the operation it was possible to find the following war items and military accessories: 9 firearms, an 81 mm grenade, more than 8000 cartridges of different calibers, 462 magazines, 43 kilograms of explosives, 544 meters of detonating cord and 190 electric matches. In the same way, the controlled destruction of an improvised explosive device (IED) at the site was carried out.
During the search in the area, more than 1000 items of military accessories were in the same way found, including campaign items, garments for exclusive use of the Military Forces, rifle holders and high-frequency communication equipment with their respective repeaters. Similarly, 49 notebooks with information alluding to the so-called Ejército Gaitanista de Colombia (EGC) were found by troops, as well as flags representative of this illegal organization.
This result of the military operation directly hits the command, control and logistical support resources of the GAO Clan del Golfo in this area of the department, limiting its criminal acts and reducing the risks to the inhabitants.
The found elements were put into custody of Sijín of the National Police in Segovia, for the corresponding judicial procedures.
Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to territorial security and will continue to carry out operations to neutralize the resources of organized armed groups that hit the tranquility of communities.
