The troops found explosive devices in the village of Palomas, in this municipality.
Soldiers of the Light Infantry Battalion N.° 31 Rifles, attached to the Eleventh Brigade and the Light Cavalry Group N.° 9 of Colombian National Army, recently discovered several explosive elements, allegedly belonging to the Heroes of Tarazá group of the organized armed group (GAO) ELN.
The finding took place in the vicinity of the Western Trunk, near the village of Palomas, a rural area of the municipality of Valdivia, department of Antioquia. At the scene, the soldiers found a 40-kilo gas cylinder, an IM26 grenade, 600 meters of detonating cord, 350 meters of security fuse and a multipurpose pixelated vest exclusively used by the Military Forces.
The explosives, apparently, would be used by this gang to perpetrate a terrorist action, in order to attack the inhabitants and members of the Military Forces, in addition to hit mobility in the sector.
After the finding of this element, soldiers of the Explosives and Demolitions Team (EXDE) of the unit carried out the controlled destruction of it, effectively neutralizing the threat. In the same way, the respective criminal denunciations were filed with the Attorney General's Office.
Colombian National Army will continue to carry out operations aimed at combating the factors of instability and any criminal act that violates human rights, with the firm commitment to protect the inhabitants and generate a security environment in this area of the department of Antioquia.
