In the framework of military operations, soldiers of the Ground Operations Battalion No. 9 of the Vulcano Task Force, in support of the National Police, arrested a citizen with foreign nationality for the alleged crime of manufacturing, trafficking, carrying or possessing firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition, in events that occurred in a commercial establishment in the village of La Gabarra, municipality of Tibú, department of Norte de Santander.
During the procedure, the troops seized two improvised explosive devices, a 9-millimeter caliber pistol with its respective magazine, 16 cartridges for the same weapon and a cell phone. All the elements were put into custody of the authority for the judicial process.
According to the preliminary analysis carried out by specialized personnel, the characteristics and the method of rudimentary manufacture of the explosive devices leads to the inference that they would have been conditioned to carry out an alleged terrorist action. Its fragmentation system would have increased the destructive power by scattering shards and the explosive wave, with the purpose of causing as much damage as possible.
According to the intelligence work, the alleged objective of this action would be to attack the members of the Military Forces that conduct security operations in the urban area of La Gabarra.
