The National Army has supported reforestation of more than 2,000 hectares of the páramo de Ocetá, in Boyacá

During 2022, the institution, together with the Autonomous Corporation of Boyacá, Corpoboyacá and the Mayor's Office of Monguí, have planted about 8500 trees of native trees and frailejones in this area of the department.

Within the framework of Operation Artemisa and with the aim of contributing to the care of the land and water resources in the páramo de Ocetá, the National Army, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Boyacá - Corpoboyacá and the Mayor's Office of Monguí, joined forces to conduct an initiative to reforest this area of the province of Sugamuxi.

The Earth Day was the best reason for the members of the Military Forces and the regional and local authorities to unite and plant about 3,000 trees of native trees and frailejones (Espeletia) and, thus, contribute to the recovery of areas damaged by unscrupulous hands.

The route of more than 15 kilometers walking culminated in the Vallado and Ducuazua villages at about 3,800 meters above sea level. There the inhabitants, together with the authorities, made the excavations to plant the native trees and several plants such as oak, willow, wicker, alder and laurel, among others. In the same way, several types of frailejones such as silver, yellow, espeletia and purple lupines were planted.

This water and forest reserve serves as a home for wild animals such as savannah rabbits, frogs, condors, eagles, guatines (Agouti) and white-tailed deer, which makes it an important source of life for the sustainability of the ecosystem.

In the same way, its care, conservation and constant reforestation serves to improve the supply of drinking water to about 250,000 people in the municipalities of Sogamoso, Tópaga, Gámeza, Corrales, Monguí and Mongua, in the province of Sugamuxi, in the department of Boyacá.
