In the framework of military operations aimed at weakening illicit activities, troops of the Light Infantry Battalion No. 26 Cacique Pigoanza, of the ninth Brigade of the Colombian National Army, seized more than half a ton of marijuana in a rural area of the municipality of Tesalia, in the west of the Department of Huila.
The action was reported on route I-24, where military units were proceeding with a checkpoint. In the procedure, the soldiers made the stop signal to a van that was passing through the sector; however, the driver omitted the order and started to escape, generating an immediate reaction on the part of the motorized unit.
The pressure exerted by the troops forced the individual to leave the vehicle meters later. Immediately, the Automotive was carried out with the support of the antinarcotics trained dog and personnel specialized in explosives and demolitions (EXDE), finding inside 462 packages with an approximate weight of 520 kilograms of a substance that, by its characteristics, would correspond to marijuana.
According to preliminary information, the shipment would cost close to 312 million pesos in the illicit market and would correspond to more than 500,000 doses. In the same way, it was established that the substance was processed in the Department of Cauca and would be destined for the center of the country, with possible routes abroad. It is presumed that it would belong to residual organized armed structures, among them the residual organized group Ismael Ruiz structure of the Isaías Pardo Central Bloc.
This result represents a significant blow to the finances of drug trafficking, while contributing to the protection of inhabitants and the reduction of the circulation of illicit substances.
