Within the framework of an extraordinary security council held at the facilities of the Eighteenth Brigade, with the participation of the military and police commanders and the activity of the main civil authorities of the region, the recent law and order events that occurred in the department of Arauca were evaluated and measures were adopted to strengthen security and institutional activity in the territory.

The council was attended by Major General Arnulfo Novoa, deputy director general of the Police; the commander of the Eighth Division, Brigadier General Gerardo Ortiz Ramirez; the commander of the 18th Brigade, Brigadier General Samuel Salinas; Governor Renson Martinez; the secretary of departmental Government and representatives of the 52nd Navy Infantry River Battalion. Delegates of the Office of the Ombudsman, the Office of the Inspector General of the Nation, the Attorney General's Office, Migracion Colombia and the Colombian Family Wellbeing Institute in the same way attended.

In the first step, the commander of the 18th Brigade expressed his solidarity with Senator Jairo Castellanos and with the families hit by the recent criminal acts, reaffirming the institution's commitment against terrorist structures.

The operations against the organized armed groups have led to the elimination of 15 members of the FARC dissidents, as well as 54 arrests and 6 neutralizations of members of the Eastern War Front of the ELN, actions carried out in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office and the National Police.

On the other hand, it was announced that, in order to strengthen security, the arrival and training of 240 new soldiers will be arranged, who will be in charge of the protection of the routes of the Marginal de la Selva and the route Libertadores.

Another of the topics addressed was the vulnerability consisting of the communication gaps with political candidates, requesting the support of the governor and the Public Ministry to coordinate effective security meetings. For this purpose, the Army will use advanced technology, such as drones and armored vehicles, in order to promote the democratic exercise and free mobility of the inhabitants under the constitutional framework.
