The National Army neutralizes machinery used for the illicit exploitation of minerals in Antioquia

It is estimated that the recovery of the ecosystem of the region will take more than 20 years, as a result of the damage caused.

Within the framework of the Ayacucho Plan, through an intelligence work that lasted about three months, National Army troops, together with the Colombian Air Force, managed to find and destroy elements that were used for the illicit exploitation of mining deposits in eastern Antioquia.

The events were reported in the Norcasia village, four hours from the municipality of San Carlos, Antioquia, where soldiers found two excavating machines, 10 diver-type dredgers, 27 engines and a classifier, which are elements that were used for the illicit exploitation of gold, an activity that extracted more than 9,000 grams per month of gold, which have an approximate cost of 234 million pesos, so this operation hits the illegal income of groups outlaw.

In the same way, troops continue to counteract the pollution caused by these mining production units, which caused a direct loss on the Saman谩 River due to the indiscriminate use of mercury and cyanide in 1,600 square meters of terrain, over an area of 3.5 hectares and a deforestation of 2,100 native trees.

The National Army will continue contributing to environmental sustainability, protecting biodiversity and natural and water resources, as strategic assets of the nation.
