The installation of explosive devices is a flagrant violation of human rights and international humanitarian law.
In the framework of military operations aimed at the protection of the inhabitants and the stability of the southwest of the country, troops of the Combat Engineer Battalion No. 23, unit of the Twenty-Third Brigade of Colombian National Army, reported the finding and controlled destruction of two improvised explosive operations.
The operation was carried out in the village of Buenavista Bajo, on the road that connects the urban area of the municipality of San José de Albán with the village of El Empatio, a strategic mobility route in the region.
According to preliminary information, these devices would have been installed by members of organized armed groups for attacking the security forces and creating fear in the community, putting the lives and integrity of the residents and of those passing through this area.
At the site, the Explosive Ordnance Detection and disposal Team, carried out the controlled destruction of two improvised explosive operations, along with 10 meters of detonating cord and an electric detonator, elements that were safely destroyed, complying with all security protocols and preventing damage to the inhabitants and damage to roads and constructions.
Similarly, in a continuous action in the rural area of the municipality of El Peñol, soldiers of the Light Infantry Battalion No. 9, neutralized two explosive devices. The use of these devices are criminal acts and a flagrant violation of human rights and international humanitarian law, so the respective denunciations will be filed.
