Within the framework of military operations aimed at safeguarding the life, integrity and tranquility of the inhabitants, troops of the Airborne Combat Infantry Battalion No. 24 carried out the finding and controlled destruction of a gas cylinder-type improvised explosive device, as well as the elimination of armed proselytizing elements, in the rural area of the municipality of Calamar, department of Guaviare.
The operation was carried out in the village of Las Damas, on national Route 75, where a cylinder was allegedly packed with explosives, which posed a direct threat to the inhabitants of the sector, road users and civilian transport. In the same place, the troops destroyed a banner alluding to the GAO residual Structure 1 Armando Ríos, Amazon Block, used to intimidate and generate fear in the community.
The timely intervention of the troops led to prevent possible damage to the inhabitants, neutralize risks to mobility and works to increase safety conditions for those who travel along this strategic road route of the department.
Through this result, Colombian National Army reaffirms its permanent commitment to the protection of the inhabitants, the defense of life and the restoration of tranquility in the department of Guaviare, effectively countering the threats of organized armed groups and strengthening institutional activities in the southeast of the country.
