This juvenile specimen of female tigrillo (Leopardus pardalis) is a wild specimen in danger of extinction.
During military stability operations carried out in the department of Guainía, and in compliance with the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan, troops of the 28th Brigade, military unit of the Eighth Division of Colombian National Army, carried out the rescue of a juvenile specimen of female tigrillo, in a rural area of the municipality of Inírida.
The operation was possible thanks to the timely information provided by residents of the sector, who alerted the military personnel of the Army and Navy about the illicit trafficking of a tiger cub, which had been orphaned by unscrupulous people who carry out illegal activities against wildlife.
Thanks to the quick intervention of the troops and the support of the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the North and East Amazon, CDA, the animal was protected and taken to a safe place, where it received veterinary care, hydration, feeding and monitoring by wildlife experts.
This operation demonstrates the commitment of Colombian National Army not only to the defense of life and security, but in the same way to the preservation of ecosystems and the protection of the country's biodiversity.
Residents are invited to report illegal wildlife trafficking to the authorities in a timely manner, in order to facilitate an immediate reaction and contribute to the protection of endangered specimens.
