These interventions contribute to the preservation of the environment and the stability of the ecosystems, as well as to the mitigation of the environmental damage generated by the rampant extraction of this mineral.
In operations conducted in the village of El Salero, municipality of Unión Panamericana, department of Chocó, the Battalion of Combat Engineers Nº 15 GR. Julio Londoño Londoño, of the Fifteenth Brigade, in support of the Brigade against the Illicit Exploitation of Mining Sites and in conjunction with the National Navy, intervened 10 mining production units.
As part of the operation, machinery and different elements used by the organized armed group, GAO, Clan del Golfo for the extraction of this mineral were intervened. Within the framework of the operation, it was possible the controlled destruction of one engine, four industrial-type engines, five diver-type dredgers, 130 meters of hose and 275 gallons of DIESEL.
This result represents a loss valued at more than 130 million pesos in machinery and precursors, with which an approximate production of 9,000 grams of gold per month was estimated, with a cost close to 4 billion pesos in trade.
Operations against illicit mining continue to significantly hit the illicit activities of this gang, which strengthens its finances through these activities.
