The heavy combat that was reported in the village Sitio Nuevo, municipality of Arauquita, caused the group of criminals to desist of their objective in Puerto Jordan and flee.

Troops of the National Army, in Operation Fenix, confronted about 30 criminals of the front Domingo Laín Sáenz, group Omaira Montoya Henao, of the organized armed group, GAO, ELN, who intended to carry out terrorist operations against the inhabitants of the municipality center of Puerto Jordan, Arauca, to attack the military base as part of celebration of its commemorative dates.

In the event, Private Andrés José Romero Teherán prevented a group of criminals from attacking civilians; however, in the attack he was wounded and, despite being assisted immediately, unfortunately died.

Similarly, two more soldiers and one Officer were wounded. The soldiers were taken to a care center and at this time are assisted by a medical team.

The unit in combat was reinforced with a Huey UH-1 helicopter, in Hunter configuration, of the National Army Aviation that, when flying over the place, received shots from the houses.

At this time by air and land military operations are reinforced to find the criminals who wanted to commit this terrorist attack.

The Commander of the Eighth Division, General Mauricio José Zabala Cardona, and the military commanders of the region, are in charge of the situation and lead the military operations.

Fighting continues and support is being provided by the Colombian Air Force.
