Thanks to a joint operation conducted by troops of the Rainforest Battalion No. 53, AS of the Hercules Task Force, the Attorney General's Office and the CTI, it was possible to thwart a terrorist attack in the village of La Espriella, rural area of the municipality of Tumaco, Nariño. This operation was carried out within the framework of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan.
During the intervention, two clandestine hiding places were found by troops with 117 propane gas cylinders, costing more than 104 million pesos, ready to be modified as improvised explosive devices. These elements would belong to the residual Iván Ríos organized armed group, known as the Bolivarian Army National Coordinator, and were intended for attacks against the Military Forces and the inhabitants.
The finding represents a powerful blow to the logistics and criminal finances of this illegal organization, weakening its ability to perpetrate attacks, extortion, recruiting minors and sow terror in the region.
During the procedure, a group of inhabitants, allegedly influenced by terrorist support networks, tried to obstruct the operation of the authorities by sedition. However, thanks to the firm and quick reaction of the troops, it was possible to secure the area and prevent clashes for the success of the operation without casualties.
