In the framework of military operations conducted in the Catatumbo region, troops of the Ground Operations Battalion n° 11, of the Vulcano Task Force of the Thirtieth Brigade, reported the neutralization of a terrorist action linked to the organized armed group ELN in the rural area of the municipality of San Calixto, department of Norte de Santander.
During movement maneuvers and search efforts, troops of the Vulcano Task Force found and disabled five means of launching of improvised explosive devices with an approximate height of 100 centimeters, which would have been planted by members of this criminal structure to attack the Military Forces that carry out sustained operations in this area of the country.
According to preliminary information, these types of acts demonstrate the criminal actions of this organized armed group by the use of unconventional means that violate Human Rights and violate the norms of International Humanitarian Law, with the purpose of affecting the troops as a response to the pressure of the permanent military operation that the Military Forces exercise in Catatumbo, progressively weakening their criminal and terrorist resources.
After the finding of these elements, the review of the area and the confiscation and destruction of these means of launch proceeded. In the same way, the army is constant in its presence and constant patrols in the area, in order to work for the safety and security of the inhabitants and the troops in the sector.
