During the activity, 60 hearing aids for people with hearing loss were donated, each valued at 12 million pesos. These elements contribute to the improvement of their quality of life, leading them to amplify sound and strengthen their communication skills.
The Colombian Navy, through the Specific Command of San Andrés and Providencia, together with the COAMED Foundation and the E.S.E. Departmental Hospital, carried out a medical activity in San Andrés Island, benefiting children, young people and adults residents of the Archipelago.
During four days, more than 15 health professionals from the United States gathered at the San Luis health center and the E.S.E. Department Hospital Clarence Lynd Newball, to provide free medical assistance in specialties such as pediatrics, internal medicine, audiology and dentistry, to the inhabitants of San Andrés Islas.
During the activity, 493 glasses for visual correction and more than 60 hearing aids were distributed for residents with hearing loss – total or partial inability to hear sounds in one or both ears -, improving their quality of life and, therefore, their relationship with the environment.
“I always attend the activities they do here in San Andrés, they are very good, I left the office very happy, they distributed medicines, I leave happy," said Mery Díaz, a beneficiary resident.
It should be noted that the COAMED Foundation, a non-profit institution based in the United States, aims to provide preventive, therapeutic and support medical assistance services to communities in vulnerable situation, which thanks to the coordination carried out by the Colombian Navy, arrived in the island region to benefit the inhabitants most in need.
