170 tons of humanitarian aid will be distributed.
Karasúa is a Wayúu people in Alta Guajira region, Colombia, more than 500 kilometers from Uribia. Arriving at this territory by sea, from Cartagena, involves a navigation to Puerto López, of more than 96 hours in adverse weather conditions, with waves that reach four meters high and winds of more than 15 knots (approximately, 27 kilometers per hour). From this point, by land, it is necessary to cross arid terrains with specialized vehicles for this purpose, for at least another 45 minutes.
This was the route taken by the Colombian Sailors, on board the ship ARC Golfo de Urabá, together with the Combat Logistics Patrols of the Mobility Battalion No.1, to transport and distribute more than 170 tons of humanitarian aid, within the framework of Operation Akalii ja, led by the Government of the Department of La Guajira, with the aim of contributing to the communities settled in the extreme north of the country.
The coordination between the private institutions and the authorities of the department led to the effective distribution of food, toilet kits, drinking water and other essential supplies for the well-being of the communities. These operations have been significant for the Sailors of Colombia: “For us as a crew it is very gratifying, since we know that we are helping vulnerable and needy villages (...) in the same way, we support the Government of the Department of La Guajira, we advised a plan that seeks the creation of docks in Riohacha and Puerto Estrella, strengthening the maritime development of the region,” said Navy Lieutenant Juan Camilo Norato Duque, Commander of the ARC Golfo de Urabá ship.

In the same way, as part of the commitment to the education of children in this region of the country, furniture was transported for a computer classroom that will benefit about 800 students of the Madre Laura Ethno-school.
