Units of the Colombian Navy managed to prevent two men from being victims of extortion under the modality of false service or “express kidnapping,” in a rural area of the municipality of Chalán - Sucre.
These are two biologists, 73 and 29, who had been hired by telephone for a review of farm animals and environmental exploration in the La Ceiba village, rural area of the municipality of Chalán – Sucre. Once they arrived at the place where they would provide the service, they received an extortion call informing them that they were being watched and that they did not have authorization to be in the place, so they had to pay more than 18 million pesos to leave the place, while pointing out that they would attack on their lives if they tried to flee the area and if they did not turn off their cellular phones.
Simultaneously, the victims' relatives received a call from an individual who identified himself as a member of the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia “AUC,” stating that he had kidnapped the two men, demanding the same amount of cash for their release.
Through the civic participation network, troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) Sucre were alerted on the situation, so they immediately began a search operation, deploying a special anti-extortion and anti-kidnapping group, which led to the finding of the two victims by the roadside in a desolate sector of the village.
After their finding, the units of the Colombian Navy verified the state of health of the biologists who, later, were returned to the city of Sincelejo to reunite with their family.
Once again, the Colombian Navy through the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) - Sucre stopped the operations of these illegal groups that conduct this extortion modality, which consists of contacting a person to hire services and once in place they demand large sums of money in exchange for their freedom.
This becomes the ninth case of false service countered by the Colombian Navy in the department of Sucre in 2022, preventing more than 100 million pesos from entering the finances of criminal hands, product of extortion activities.
