Nine thousand gallons of water were used to extinguish forest fire in Suarez, Tolima

cogfm-fac-extincion-de-incendio.jpeg

A forest fire reported in a mountainous area of the municipality of Suárez, department of Tolima, which had consumed several hectares of vegetation, was successfully extinguished after the implementation of the Bambi Bucket system, capable of storing and transporting large amounts of water in helicopters of the Colombian Air Force.

Because of the magnitude and location of the conflagration it was very difficult go get the place by land, so, it was necessary to provide emergency support with air means. This objective was made possible thanks to the joint work conducted by the Mayor's Office of Suárez, the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, the Volunteer Fire Brigade and Police Units of this municipality, added to the experience of the crews of the Air Combat Command No.4, who transported approximately nine thousand gallons of water from the Magdalena River, which were subsequently spread directly over the flames.

The timely reaction to the unforeseen event, prevented major damage to the water sources, tropical forest and wildlife of the sector. That is why the personnel of the Helicopter Crews Cradle, are in constant preparation, in order to provide support for this type of requirements as soon as possible.
