Cúcuta, Norte de Santander, October 6, 2021. The Minister of National Defense, Diego Molano Aponte, presided, together with the President of the Republic, Iván Duque, the activation ceremony of the Specific Command of Norte de Santander, CENOR, to guarantee security for the department of Norte de Santander.
The Minister said that the activation of the CENOR, formed by the Military Forces, and especially by the National Army, has three purposes “to combat drug trafficking and dismantle the GAO Clan del Golfo, the Eln and the dissidents of the Farc that operate in Norte de Santander and take refuge in Venezuela to carry out drug trafficking activities. In the same way, to attack the entire chain of drug trafficking, which is production, cultivation, and laboratories; and finally, to ensure that all peasants, and transporters can produce and transport their products peacefully in the department, without extortion.
The head of the Defense informed that guarantee security at the border it will be a priority.
“Colombians can feel safe with our border protected. Today, with the formal entry points already opened by the Government of President Duque, Migracion Colombia, the Police and our National Army, can work better."
The Specific Command will be made up of 14,000 men and women, members of the Second Division, the Thirtieth Brigade of the National Army, the Vulcano Task Force, and the Energy Operational Command No. 1, units that, in addition, have the direct support of units of the National Navy and the Colombian Air Force.
On the other hand, the Minister visited the CAI Briceño, in the metropolitan area of Cúcuta, to greet the police officers of this police station. There he thanked the contribution to the security of the commemorative acts of the Bicentenary of the Constitution of Villa del Rosario de Cúcuta.
